I did nothing more than sit or stand in the same place, and shoot the same subjects....first with the H9 and then with the H50. I did attempt to keep the settings the same, but the cameras wouldn't cooperate.

I quickly found that setting the shutter speed the same on both cameras did not mean that the exposure value would remain the same.

This is the same shot as the last one, with the levels adjusted. The H50 'chose' a lower [darker] exposure value when all else was kept the same. [ISO, shutter speed, etc.]

With some subjects I felt the IQ of the H9 was better, sometimes the H50 did the best job. IMO.

To add to my unscientific comparisons, I used the bracketing method on some of the shots, and then chose the best [IMO] of the three. It wasn't always the same three.

The outdoor shots were all taken early in the morning, on a very gray, dismal day. No sun and no breaks in the clouds. The light was difficult for both cameras. [see the bug?]

In most cases, I couldn't really see a discernable difference in IQ. This, BTW, is the second H50. The first one malfunctioned and was returned. I'm not sure the second copy has IQ as good as the first.

This bug was the most difficult part of this shoot. I spent more time trying to get a clear shot of it than I did with all the rest of my testing. And I failed miserably, since this was the best I got....with the H9.

Cropped version of the best shot the H50 gave me. The H9 seems to be the winner....even though neither did a respectable job. These flowers are from Cinnamon Basil, and are about 1/4 " across. That makes the bug even smaller.

These little dudes were impossible. To get a decent shot, I need to spot focus on that E.T. head...which is roughly the size of a grain of garden sand. And when they noticed me they would bob their head back and forth.

This alien-looking creature is actually the top of a bloom scape on a Bunny Ears plant...aka Lamb's Ears. See if you don't think the H9 won again on this one.

In the middle of shooting the flowers I noticed the Blue Jay on the feeder in our front window. This is where I noticed the biggest difference in the two cameras as to the exposure value. From where I was sitting I had to zoom all the way out, and this shot is cropped.

Also cropped-H50. I was able to shoot with a slightly higher shutter speed with the H9. All the H50 shots were considerably darker if I tried using the same speed.

I moved inside and did a few shots using the timer and 5/100's shutter speed. I placed the cameras on a bean bag.

There was a slight discrepency in the f-stop on these pics. I failed to notice that the H50 would go to 2.7, while the H9 only gave me 3.2. Other than that, all settings were the same.
